Breast Augmentation FAQ’s

Serving New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut (the mid Atlantic states)
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon Sheila A. Bond, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Q. Is a “Boob Job” the same as a Breast Augmentation?

A. Yes.

Q. If my breasts are saggy, will a Breast Augmentation help?

A. It depends on the amount of sag in your breasts. Sometimes an implant can fill the breast if the sagging is not too severe. If the breasts are really stretched, you may need a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) which can be done at the same time as the Augmentation.

Q. Is there a big scar?

A. The scar is about 2 inches long and will be hidden under the breast fold.

Q. What if my implant leaks or breaks?

A. The implants come with a lifetime warranty for replacement of the pair if they rupture or deflate. If the saline leaks into the body, it is completely safe. If you suspect that your gel implant is leaking, your doctor can request an MRI to find out. The percentage of deflation in both types of implants is very small.

Q. Do you take insurance?

A. Dr. Bond accepts PPO insurance, but Breast Augmentation is not often a “medically necessary” procedure and is not covered by any insurance.

Q. Are the implants the same price? Is an A cheaper than a C?

A. Saline implants are the same price for any size; silicone implants are more expensive, but all sizes are the same price.

Q. What if my breasts don’t look right after the surgery?

A. Dr. Bond’s fee includes a year of follow-up visit, If you have any questions or issues, just call for an appointment. Post-surgery revisions are included in your fee.

Q. Can I breastfeed with implants?

A. The implants are placed under the muscle. They should not interfere with the “plumbing” needed for breastfeeding.

Q. How long do the implants last? Will they need to be replaced?

A. The new implants, both saline and silicone will last indefinitely. You will only need to replace them if there is a problem, or if you decide you want to change to a different size.

Q. Can I fly with breast implants? I heard they can explode.

A. It is perfectly safe to fly with breast implants.

Q. What if one breast is bigger than the other?

A. Saline implants can be filled with different amounts of saline to compensate for breast asymmetry. Dr. Bond will just fill the smaller one a bit more.

Q. What kind of bras can I wear after the surgery?

A. Directly after your Breast Augmentation you should avoid underwire bras as they may irritate the incision from the surgery. After you’re healed you can wear any type of bra you choose.

Q. How do I decide what size I want to be?

A. Before your surgery, you will meet with Dr. Bond for an implant sizing appointment. You will bring a snug sweater or tee shirt and try on sizers. You’ll be able to see what your new contours will look like, so you can pick exactly the right size.
